Thanks for this message. I have replaced everything, including a third serp belt last October (about 7000-8000 miles ago)at the recommended intervals and had everything done by the dealer nearest my home.

As I noted in another response, the dealer that has the car has concluded that the cause of the serp belt problem was an alternator bracket that was placed at the wrong angle, which led the serp to slip off, leading to the destruction of the engine.

My big concern is with getting the dealer to own up to any responsibility for this. I get the impression that there are workmanship issues, and not part issues.
