Alternator 850 1996

Good Question..

the alternator has a internal Voltage Regulater that controls the voltage that is used in the car electrical system, this same voltage also is used to Charge the battery. If the regulater is putting out to much voltage it can damage the battery, if the regulator is not putting out enough voltage than it can cause the battery not to completely charge causing a eventual dead battery.

if you can jump start the car, then drive it to a shop or auto supply where you bought the battery and have them do a test on the aloternator to see what voltage is being produced,

they can test your battery and charging system for you usually for free.
