Electric problem/poltergeist 850 1997

My 850 R wagon was idling for 5-10 minutes at dusk with the AC operating. As I took off from the mall all the instrument cluster lights activated(like they do in bulb test mode during start up) All warning lamps now stay on continuously when the car is running. Additionally, the alternator appears to be disabled as the battery has discharged and the car stalled. After re-charge, the car runs ok but all instrument cluster lights are still on even with a full battery charge. The battery appears to hold a charge well with no load voltage at 12.8 volts. Any Ideas? Has anyone experienced anything like this? Thanks in advance....
