Auto Trans 850

I finally got around to taking the dealer's service manager up on his offer to peruse the car's service history. They're closed weekends (!) so it makes it harder to get by there. When I bought the car in January it had 77k miles and had been maintained at the dealership. At that time I talked with the service dept and found that the car had been very well taken care of by them. They knew the owner (daughter of a senior salesman) and recommended the car.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I went by with a little time on my hands and read through the history. Receipts, work orders, owner complaints etc. Turns out the tranny was replaced under warranty at 56k miles. "No drive." Four hundred miles before that it was towed to the shop with the same problem. They power flushed the tranny, replaced the PNP switch at that time.

This was in '97 and the dealer cost of the replacement trans was $1000 plus all the incidentals. The rear seal was alao replaced at that time. It's a flat-rate 10-hour job for the tranny replacement.

I don't know how they drove the car or if that was a factor. There was no record of the ATF being changed as a PM move before the power flush at 52k.

I've posted my car's service history at:

I'm at 83k now btw and judging by the intervals the brakes were replaced, it may be time again.
