850 tailgate rattle 850 1996

Hi folks,

I know there's been much talk of tailgate rattle round these parts. I'm driving a 96 850 Turbo Wagon and notice that the entire tailgate is loose. I have removed the inside cover and have the fix kit to repair the broken plastic fittings, but am hesitant to do this until I can shore up the tailgate itself. I don't think it is the rubber pads/bumpers, as I temporarily "enlarged" them with some added padding to see if that would shore the tailgate up, but it didn't. Is there a way, preferably easy, to tighten the whole tailgate up? I do a lot of driving on washboard dirt raods, so I expect this. I thought I saw a post from a while back from someone who has done this without the help of a mechanic. Any info would be appreciated!

thanks,

matt b.
