Trans Fluid Change Question 850 1996

Wife just came back from her independent Volvo shop with basic fluid changes. Regarding trans fluid change, she was told that a complete fluid change cannot be done. Just drain a certain amount (like less than half)and refresh with new. This is different than when I have my Chevy truck serviced. They do a flush which takes out MOST of the tranny fluid. Does this mean its a dealer job because the indy does not have the machine or is something different with 850 Volvos? TIA. Tom in Phoenix
