Dead in the water 850 1997

Went to start up & nothing not even enough power for the locks. no water in the Bat-tree. Do I just fill er up, get a jump and all is well? What say you? This battery was purchased just before Sep 11, from a dealer. It has been working fine, & I have not checked the levels myself. :( What would cause all the liquid to dissappear? How often to check?
