My Take On FWD Trans Problems

I recently bought a 1999 V70, in April. I've noticed the idel is quite high, 850 - 900 rpm, and the car will 'idle' at about 5 - 8 mph. At a light i really have to keep my foot on the brake. My 960 idles much lower and does not have this problem. I've begun to shift the trans into neutral at stoplights and I'm thinking of adding a large oil cooler, flushing the fluid and changing the filter. I also want to see about adjusting the idle speed down 100 rpm, to 750 or so.

I think the idle is too high and cooks the trans fluid. I've heard rumors about lumpy idle problems with the older V-6's, 264 and Bertone Coupes, where the tech would increase the idle speed to smooth them out which resulted in trans. problems.

Any thoughts?
