My Take On FWD Trans Problems

Why don't you try cleaning out your throttle body, PCV valve or flame trap (which ever you are equipped with), DEFINETLY the idle control valve, and if equipped the intercooler, and while you are at it, REALLY have your fuel injectors cleaned out. Then after all the cleaning, change your engine oil.

I did this a while back and noticed a decrease in idle rpm, smoother idle, less revving at start up, smoother acceleration, not faster, but smoother, as well as better mileage. Total time was about 20 minutes.
