Then, why the heck did my mechanic replace it with Volvo Power Steering Fluid?

He noticed that someone put ATF in the reservoir--that would be me--and pointed out it was the cause of the squealing whenever I made turns. Mind you, I trust the guy (and I have faith in this forum). He used to work for Volvo in Sweden where he's originally from, and their indi-biz is extremely reliable.

Also, why was the local dealership selling a bottle that was clearly labeled, Volvo Power Steering Fluid, right next to the Volvo ATF? Please advise.
