Radio Cutting in and out 850 1994

I had the same thing. Go to a music store and buy a can of "pick up and electronic cleaner", spray it into the volume nob shaft, wiggle the knob around. You may have to do this a number of times before it is cleaned out. I kept the can in my glove compartment and sprayed the shaft whenever I got the crackling noise.
Haven't had a problem in over a year.
