Plastic styling around tailight 850

I'm looking to buy a 96 or 97 850 turbo over the next few months, and have already gotten some helpful tips on this board.

My next question concerns a plastic "styling" around the tailight assembly. It is usually black, and is located in the area between the rear license plate and the tailight assembly. I've noticed that some 850's have it, and some don't. (On the 850's that don't have it, there is nothing but metal between the license plate and the tailight assembly.)

Anyone know what I'm talking about? If so, does anyone know if the plastic styling is limited to certain years or models of the 850?

Thanks.
