drive axle boots have holes 850 1997

They are not torn, they're in good shape, but both have small holes. My indy said it looked like someone had made them to be able to inject grease. (Heard of this practice before?) And, when I drove through some deep water, some grease had come out. Can I inject some more grease, and patch the boot, & go on my trip that I was planning? Then get the work done after 1200 miles or so? Please say something good, because I've never done anything to ruin your day, [my right rear door was kicked by vandals last nite, and there's a small oil leak as well] and I have bad luck in threes at the moment. Oh no make that fours, the battery died too.
Regards
