Radio cutting out, front half of car 850 1995

I have a 1995 850, with the SC-811 radio. Recently I've noticed that when I first start the car, sound comes from all 8 speakers. But after driving for a few minutes, the sound in the front four speakers (2 in dash, 2 in front doors) drops in volume, down to nothing. The back four speakers stay at a normal volume level. Occasionally the front 4 speakers' volume increases but then cuts out again. I usually leave the fader set to the center position and I will hear the rear speakers. When I slide the fader to the front position, silence. I thought there might be a loose speaker wire to one of the front speakers but all 4 front speakers drop out simultaneously. Any ideas or suggestions? I pulled the radio out and didn't notice anything peculiar with the wiring harnesses. A new Volvo radio might cost $800. An aftermarket radio would work but I'm told all speakers would have to be replaced because Volvo uses amplified speakers with quirky ohms, etc. Anybody got any thoughts on something I could try?
