climate control and transmission cooler 850 1997

Hi all,
I am a new owner of a 97 850 GLT and need some assistance/opinions for some repairs needed for this car. During the pre purchase inspection I was informed by the local indy shop the driver side climate control was not working correcly. I am curious where the driver side temp sensor is located and how to go about replacement. I was quoted a price of any where from $300.00 to $10000.00 for complete repair of ther sensor and possible problems with three of the vent motors/sensors. I would like to attempt the repair my self and save a few bucks if possible. Also I was considering installing a trasmission cooler for this car to extend the life of the A/T.
Any opinions would be apreciated.
