burning oil 850 1997

I just did the 80K check up on my '97 850R and found my self 1 Qt of oil short. My oil is syn mobil 10w30 and I still have 2000 miles till my next change. This has never happened and I am wondering what has changed w/ my car-other than this everything is cool-like I said this is new-I have never been low on oil before-any tips?
