Since we switched to Mobil 1 10-30, I haven't seen any oil consumption although the dealer did overfill it by about .75 quart. My wife drove it for about a week before I discovered it and drained some of it out. Hopefully, that didn't put undue pressure on the seals.

Am I to infer from your email that as the engine gets older, oil consumption becomes a progressively worse problem and that one solution is to switch to heavier oil? If so, wouldn't the heavier oil be bad for the engine in freezing temperatures? Thanks
