odometer quit. Anybody got a fix? 850 1994

I just had the same problem on my '94 850. There's a set of two gears that drive your odometer/trip odometer, and it's highly likely that a tooth came off on one of the gears. If one tooth comes off, it will not turn at all. The gears are made form a gummy plastic that will wear out over time. Check volvospeed.com for details on how to remove the instrument cluster. You'll have to COMPLETELY take apart the instrument gauge cluster to get to the odometer assembly. If you are confident enough to do the job, the only challenge is to obtain the gear. It's a 15 tooth gear that you can buy at some speedometer repair shops. Check your area. Expect the whole job to take a few good hours. Or, the dealer will probably fix it, but a brand new odometer assembly will be about $200, and you only really need that small gear....you should just fix it yourself to avoid having a new odometer put in and also to avoid "actual mileage" issues. The 15T gear cost me $40 around here, and I replaced it myself, which I think is very much worth doing so to avoid paying $250+ at the dealer. Good luck! And a final word of advice, brains before brawn when working around the delicate insturment cluster!!!
