Hose off airbox? 850 1996

From all I know, The hose from exhaust to airbox only operates (let air into airbox) when the car is just started to let the engine to reach the operating temperature sooner. When the engine reaches its normal operating temperature, or when the air taken in is hotter than 50 F, it cuts off with a valve. I wouldn't take that of. However, I know that there are some cool air intake system sold by some of the companies.
