evaporator change 850 1996

So ok, it's official - my 855 with ECC evaporator is leaking.

Firstly, thank's to all who have read and answered my previous posts.

Got the heater blower resistor out and with black light, the dye in the a/c system shows up the leak in the evap as clear as anything.

Any hints or suggestions I need to consider before I change it? Other that 'don't do it!!' I can borrow the tool to remove evap from its pipes.

I know Volvo book time for the job is 6 hours - but I've never removed an 850 dash before (did a Peugoet 306 once for a heater matrix - Peugoet time 4.5 hours, my time 2 very long days!! But it was my sister in law).

Do I need to change anything else while I'm at it - does the accumulator (dryer? the canister behind the headlamp) have a service interval?

And how do those plastic slides release from the glove box lid!!!

Do I try and buy an after-market evap or should I only go for Volvo genuine? This part here is £350 UK - the whole garage job is £1,000 - I can get re-gas done for £50, and I can think of lots of things to spend £600 on!!!

Haynes details dash removal, but nothing after that - ie, how to remove that huge white plastic box with heater blower, evap, and (I assume) matrix - in it.

Any help gratefully received - I want it done before our current heatwave goes!!

Thanks,

K
