EVAP canister 850 1994

I looked under my left front bumper today and saw two vacuum hoses hanging down.
It appears to be from the EVAP canister which is no longer there though the plastic strap is. I have no idea what happened to it or how long it has been gone.
The car runs great and there is no check engine light and I did not smell gasoline. Maybe it isnt the EVAP canister that is missing.
The Haynes manual describes a replacement proceedure but the Chilton manual says dont mess with it???

I plan to replace it as soon as possible but I'm baffled why it doesnt affect the performance or turn on some annoying light somewhere.

Anyone have any thoughts
Thanks
Steve
