Stumped - Need Help - Running Problem 850 1993

Guys -

Thanks for all the responses. I have swallowed my pride and made an appointment to drop the car off at a dealer 5-Aug. Will post again once I know something definite in the hope that it will save someone else the trouble should they encounter a similar problem.

LB - FPR has been replaced and fuel pressure is 42 psi. Don't know about speed sensor you mentioned, but the problem is independent of the transmission I think. Fuel filter was replaced at last scheduled interval although I admit I don't recall off the top what the mileage was (120K?). Also I did test the ECT sensor and it passed - resistance checks were reasonably close to nominal at various temps.
