Volvo V40 1998 1998

Hi,

I am new to both owning a Volvo, and to this forum so bear with me please :o)

I have not long purchased a 1998 (S) Volvo V40 SE 2i Auto.

I had planned a journey and decided to carry out an oil and filter change. On phoning for prices and availability of an oil filter, I am told by several retailers that the filter I will need is the cannister.

Upon removing the oil filter I find that it is the 'element' kind. On phoning back to the retailers, I am told that the 'elements' were not used on Volvo's until late 2000, early 2001.

I have been assured this by several independent sources. Whilst it is not a problem and am puzzled as to the explanation as to why this particular car on an 'S' plate should have the 'element' filter, which apparently was not introduced until 2000/2001.

Any ideas to explain my query would be interesting.

Thanks, Pauline UK.
