O2 Sensor - how long can you leave it 850 1994

I have been having similar problems with my 1995, pulling codes 435 & 436. I was also running 87 octane when the light came on. I also had a loose turbo hose which may have caused it.

I am now back to 91 octane, but I have a suspicion the O2 sensor is cooked. How long can you leave these in once they have failed. How long before you risk damage to the catalytic converter? I am considering the quick fix blowtorch trick described on Ozbrick, but it seems like a pain.
