Service indicator V70-XC70 2002

Had the dealer do first oil change at 5K mi. just hit 7500 and the message center indicates that it's due for service. I called Volvo customer service for the protocall to reset, and they gave me the same instructions that worked on my 1999 XC - key off, hold in trip odo. reset, turn key on, hold for 10sec until message is flashing and then release while still flashing within 4 sec.
This worked fine on my 99 but will not work on the 2002. Another call to customer service resulted in no help - "it should work". I'd rather not have to travel to the dealer and waite for them to do it. Anybody have a "fix"?
