Strange clicking noise by Battery 850

when I came home today I heard a strange buzzing noise from the engine compartment. Even if the car is not running but the key is in position # 1
there is a strange buzzing and sometimes clicking coming from in front of the battery. There is a large connecter right next to the drivers side headlights and the noise is coming from there. If I disconnect it the noise stops.
Does anybody know what this is, I do not even know what that connector is for.
