After driving a used 98 S70 for 3 years and 60k miles( now has 98k miles), I really got tired of the stiff ride over rough roads. Even my wife started complaining about it. I always put V or H rated tires on the car--the latest being Toyo TPT. Pretty good overall tire but still rough riding. Reading the reviews from Tirerack on the Yokohama Avid Touring tire, I decided to put a set of them on the car--even thought it is only a S rated tire. Driving the car for over 2k miles now, including a driving rain storm, I can honestly say I am amazed at the ride and handling of the car. It is by far the best riding tire I have put on the car and yet still provides decent handling. Under normal driving conditions, I notice very little difference. Even under aggressive driving conditions, I notice little difference. I thought there would be a dramatic fall off in handling. The major difference is a slight reduction in steering response. Overall though, a worthwhile tradeoff for a better ride. My recommendation for those that want a smoother ride, the only way to get this is with a tire like the Avid Touring. Another good choice would be Michilen X One, which I think is being discontinued. By the way, it cost me $65 each for the tire including installation and balancing. Tirerack sells the tire for $46.
Bottom line is that before putting on these tires, I was about to get rid of the car. Now I plan to keep it another 100k miles. It is that good and probably the best buy in tires for average driving!!
