ABS pump running!!! S70 1998

I need to replace the ABS Control Unit, however, the ABS pump has been turning on randomly while driving every few days. The brake pedal has a very soft feel when it does this and braking power is somewhat diminished. This is not the normal "test" the ABS system performs shortly after I start the car.

Any ideas? Please tell me this is related to the ABS Control Unit being bad!
