Intermittent no start 850 1994

I own a '94 850 wagon. Recently it has been experiencing an intermittent no start. For apparently no reason it would not start. The thing would crank normally, but no fire. As a last resort to get me out of a jam, I gave it a quick shot of ether, to which it immediately started and ran perfectly. Once home I shut the engine off and started it back up again several times. The next day, after sitting overnight it started normally again. I drove the car about 20 miles, shut it off, and started it again without incident. I drove the car home, it sat in the garage for about an hour. Again, it would crank but not fire. A quick shot of ether had it running again perfectly. Since then I have started it a dozen times without any problems. I would like to find the root cuase of the problem and fix it before it gets worse. Can anyone pin me in the right direction?
