Upgraded brake pads for S70? S70

Had to make a panic stop today, and I've realized that I no longer like the way the brakes on my '99 T5 feel. I'm used to more initial bite, and a firmer pedal. I'm assuming the car still has the original fluid in it - that will be flushed tonight.

Can anyone recommend brake pads that offer a quicker bite? Dust and noise are not high on my list of concerns - I'd rather wash the wheels a bit more often than have a braking system I'm not 100% confident in. I'd like something a better than the OEM pads without ending up with a non-streetable race compound.
