Transmission solenoid? 850 1994

i have a 94 850 which runs GREAT - however, when cold (ice cold, or haven't driven for a week) the transmission will seem to get stuck or slip into a high gear when starting out - if i drop the automatic into the "3" position, i can get it to engage properly - moving back to normal "D" position and it shifts fine - i have absolutely NO problems when the car is warm, at any speeds - thoughts? transmission solenoid? other?
