Compressor temperature sensor 850 1996

I didn't want to attach this to the original thread as it's a couple of days old and getting buried. There appears to be something of a concensus that the A/C compressor temperature sensor is responsible for a condition where cooling is intermittently suspended in hot weather. I'm beginning to experience this problem. Reference is made to bypassing this sensor as a means of diagnosis, but what is the bottom line? Replace sensor or whole compressor? (which?) Cost of part? Ease of replacement? Location of sensor on compressor? It's going to be hot for a while yet.

Thanks in advance.
