Door check strap #$%& 850

My '96 850 driver's side door has been making a clicking sound whenever opened and closed
for a month. Greasing did no good. I peeled back the rubber boot covering the door check strap, only to find that the aluminum door frame is fractured where the check strap attaches, and the metal is flexing with every door movement. Looks like it will break soon if not repaired.

Does anybody have any ideas? Can the torn aluminum be repaired? Has anyone else had to deal with this issue on their Volvo?
