valve lifter vs tappet 850

My mechanic advice me to change some of my lifters because of clicking noise. So I went to several mail order and saw that they are offering valve lifter but when I try to find tappets, not one of the site are showing this part.

Is there a difference between a tappet from valve lifters? Are they different parts or just one that are associated with another?

I also browsed the Haynes repair manual and did not find a word for valve lifter but tappets.

Thanks.
