A/C Growling sound in S80: A Volvo thing?

I have a new S80, and before I make a fool of myself at the dealer, I thought I would ask here first ...(and perhaps make a fool of myself, too.)
I have never owned a Volvo before, so everything "Volvo" is new to me. I owned two Maximas before, and the cars are very different. I had a check engine light come on two days ago, called the dealer, and dealer said probably nothing wrong ... bring it in this week for check up. The car has 490 miles on it, so I am hoping nothing is wrong. (It seems to drive fine, but then it is totally different from the Maxima, so what seems funny may be fine and vice versa.) Today, when I started the car and turned on the A/C, I heard a loud groaning sound .... loud enough to be heard in the cabin but not deafening. I turned off the A/C, and I think it stopped. I never heard it again, and when I turned the A/C back on, I heard it again. It lasts for a few seconds or so, and it is never heard at highway speeds. Question: Is this a Volvo thing? If so, what other Volvo trademarks can I watch/listen for so that I don't ask too many dumb questions at the dealer? Thanks for your assistance and patience
