the right outboard pads always wear down first in L/H drive cars. Dirt from the shoulder gets caught between the pads and rotor causing them to wear faster. Difficulty retracting the pistons is caused by the hydraulic part of the ABS. Typically when 800 series front calipers go bad it's becausethe sliders have seized up. If you bleed the crap out of your brake system it should help with pedal feel. It should be done at least every 2 years or more often if you live in high humidity. The water content of the fluid can cause a number of pedal feel complaints.
