Yes you heard right, I just took my tank to an auto cross event, whoa.... San Diego BMW Car Club runs an almost monthly autocross event, and my brother has been going to these for the past year or so in his little m-coupe... So i decided what the hell, lets take the brick.
Well one thing is for certian.... These S70's are UNDERSTEER QUEENS! Wow, does the car refuse to turn, heh. Iv done some mods to help it out, H&R's, Bilstiens, 18s and low pro pirelli's... Even with all that, it is one tuff brick to try to handle around a mile long autocross track.
Wow did i feel out of place, heh... Look in front of you in line and you see this beautiful 3 series and can feel the heat comming out of its four tail pipes.... wait - its a 2002 M3 with friggen SMG II. Greeeeat, look behind me and i see a flock of about 5 or 6 M-Coupes that have had just about everything you can think of done to them... BUT, it was fun as hell, every turn i took people cheered me on and amist the screeching of my tires as the car understeered like a *itch, you could hear people yelling "Volvo Power!!!" Heh, I think just about every BMW owner there was surprised to see a volvo of all friggen cars there, heh... By the end of the day everyone knew me and the car and my S70 got the nickname of "the pig".
Well, the car got into more shapes then i could imagine, and it was fun to push the volvo to its limits, not much BTW :) But, next time i go i know what to do... got to lighten that sucker up, and find a way to get some better traction... This front wheeler just wasnt designed for tight 90 degree turn BMW autocrosses... But hey... Theres always the little right handed breaking trick :) e-brake. Using the e-brake on a couple runs really helped me out, whippin the ass out on some turns was a must if i wanted to get the whole thing around quickly without hitting cones... I got some video aswell, i shall out that on later in the week. Its was lots of fun and i will definately go next chance i have...
