Need advice for 850 repaint 850 1995

I may be able to help a little bit. I know that the factories use a charged/painting system. The cars body holds a slight charge and the paint particles are oppositely charged so that they attract to eachother. This makes factory painting that much better than most bodyshops. Granted, the bodyshop can make their paint pretty damned good if they prep the car very well. The most important part about painting any car is prepping it.

If the old paint is not sanded down properly, then the new paint will not bond correctly. So make sure that they company sands down the paint in stages.

Rough grit sandpaper to get rid of the top surface clearcoat. Gradually moving up in the number of grit. Eventually ending on fine grit sandpaper with water. Then they should make sure all oils are cleaned off.

Since your car has never been repainted, you can have a very good job with just prepping the current paint on your car. There is no need to sand down to the primer on your car.

The type of paint used also matters, but not as much as the prepping. The number of coats of paint and clear do matter as well. One clear coat layer will suck. However, 10 is unnecessary.

My bodyshop uses urethane based paint, and adds adhesive/flex agent to urethane paint surfaces to allow for bending and such. I had my complete front end (Acura Integra) painted a urethane bumper and a front spoiler. The paint was excellent. Bonded very well, and even when I scraped the lip, the paint never chipped at the scrape areas and even withstood some of the scraping and just scratched on the surface.

Just ask how the process is done and make sure that prepping is taken very seriously.
