Yeah, you're right, the BMW instrument lighting drives me bonkers, too. It may work on a nightime raid over the London docks but not on US highways. VW seems to favor similarly bizarre instrument lighting. Fortunately, the disease seems not to have spread to Porsche yet.

Both Volvo and SAAB have good instrument lighting in that you don't even notice it.

Interesting SAAB still manufactures aircraft, at least the part of the company they didn't sell to GM, while BMW stopped production around 1945.

But unless I could find some place to put my tokens and loose change besides the cupholder I'd be driven nuts by the Volvo all the time, not just at night.
