A/C Clutch 850 1995

I was told that my A/C clutch was bad because when it's hot out ^85F My A/C will stop working for 3 minutes and then I can turn it on again. I bypassed the compressor switch and still have a problem. I brought it to the dealer and they said it was the compressor's clutch. He put an electrical tester some compressor wires and said power was going to the clutch, but it wasn't engaging. Does this sound right? Do the clutches go bad? and when they do do they do that?
