New Owner of V70 V70-XC70 2001

I recently purchased a 2001 V70. I have always changed my own oil every 3K and other preventive maintenance. I was surprised to learn it doesn't use the standard oil filter, i.e. screw on/off with one unit. It uses a cartridge that costs more than the normal oil filters. When changing the oil filter, the can holding the cartridge has to come off to expose the cartridge. What tool is needed to remove the can? Can a standard oil filter removal tool be used? Or do I have to get it from the dealer & pay double the going price. Any help appreciated plus any other tidbits from you guys who do your own maintenance. Thanks
