check engine light V70-XC70

I have a brand new to me 98 XC. My check engine light has gone on while the car is running fine. I noticed in my manual it states the check engine light can go on due to filling the gas tank while the vehile is running. I am wondering how common this check engine light due to fueling situation is? Is there any way to clear the code?
