ECU upgrades V70-XC70 2001

I know this question has been asked before...but I'll ask again.

Does anyone out there have any long-term experience in upgrading their ECU in a 2001 XC? I am thinking about making the plunge but most of the chips are $800 and I want to make sure I get the best one (or at least the one with the fewest problems). Issues with various manufactures? Assuming I am going to keep this car for the long haul being able to convert back to stock is not a priority. Also the increase in perofrmance is great....but how badly is the gas milage effected; I am a 80 mile a day commuter to my work so I need to consider that as well.
