Exhast smell with vent on

I have a 93 850 with 92,000 miles. When the engine is fully hot with the vent on cold; the air has an exhaust smell at slow speed or setting still. If I turn the air on it does not smell.

I tightened the manifold bolts and the valve cover bolts, and I can't see any exhaust coming up from the engine. If the vent is off, even with the window open there is no smell, so I don't think it is an exhaust leak in the pipe anywhere.

Any other ideas or is it time to visit the mechanic?
