buying used Volvo-Confused by all the models

Hello out there, I'm new to this website so here goes...
I don't know a lot about the different model Volvos out there, and I'm upgrading my '89 760 Wagon (150k Mi) to a sedan, because my wife now drives a new V70.
I'm currently considering a very clean '97 850GLT w/50K Mi. but I'm confused by all the models out there.
Is an 850GLT any better or worse than say the 900/700 series or any of the S series available. Is the 2.4Turbo engine more or less reliable than another engine? Should I be going for a rear wheel drive or front? No body has given me any definative answers on which year, or model is best.
Can anyone help me in this regard. I can afford to spend between $10-15k on a car.
Thanks for any advise in advance.
P.S. I'm blown away by the speed & agility of my wifes '02 V70. I'd love to find an older model that's as much fun to drive. Am I dreaming?
