Your XTC dying at all on the highway? V70-XC70

Okay, my little brother has a 2002 XTC. honestl,y I love the car and wish I had one myself! But lately he's been having this reocciring problem and wondering if any of you had any ideas or had similar problems:

1) driving down the highway and they it seems as if the car has run outta gas and the car just dies. But the miles til empty shows 60-100 miles left. So maybe it's the electronics, I don't think... because when you fill it up and you cannot put the rquired amount ot fill the tank (18gallons I believe) but only 10-12 gallons.

2) yesterday he was driving and all of a suddent fo rabout 30 seconds he said he had this annoying screeching sound come out of his car when he was on the off ramp.

3) he tried filling the car w/ gas yesterday and the damn thing kept stopin gon him no matter how fast/slow he pumped gas in there. Finally he had enough and stopped and pulled the nozzle out and the damn car spat som egas back on him! Okay, so maybe he put too much in but when he started that car, the gas gauge read only about 3/4 full or so.

The car is at the shop right now being checked and only has 25k miles on it.

Any ideas/stories would be of great help!
-steve
