Automatic transmission issues 850

The simple answer is NO. If you talk to Volvo technicians they will tell you that rarely if ever have they seen a need for transmission replacement on 850s. However this site (inviting input from around the world) has documented cases of '93 owners replacing the tranny. The gear postion sensor or PNP (Park, Neutral Position) as it is sometimes called is famous for failing, giving the impression that the tranny is at fault. I'm suggesting that in most if not all cases it has been simply the switch and nothing else....
