check engine light V70-XC70 1998

I also have a 1998 XC and have had the check engine light come on a number of times since I bought the car 18 months ago. While the earlier explanations were correct, I wanted to offer another source of the code that you should check for.

My service center found a few weeks back that the code that was read out from the car's computer indicated a "gas tank vacuum loss," typically associated with a loose gas cap. After clearing it, it came back within one day. It would up being a rotted fuel hose that needed to be replaced. Cheap, but a safety issue. Make sure that they check yours thoroughly, as I had to go back to the place twice and wasted a lot of time.
