I came very close to buying an 850 on ebay but I didn't want to travel to check it out and spend two days driving it back. I'll be looking for a cherry 240 in a few months and will watch ebay again.

One thing about it though, I use ebay as my selling price barometer for many different types of items and find the selling prices can be higher there. Not a really accurate gauge of the real world.

Without dipping into Eyoreism, there is a LOT of competition out there for car sales. 0% interest deals, 0-down, (f)leases, etc. Selling any used car is going to require more work to find the buyer who wants just what you're offering. Unfortunatly, Volvo 850s seem to have depreciated quickly. At 7-years old, I bought a $33,000 luxury/sports wagon for about 1/3 its new price.

This holds true for anything; If it isn't selling, the price is too high. Again, if you have time to wait, keep it spotless and advertise where the likely buyers will find it. If you can find an independent Volvo shop to do the 120k service cheaper than the dealer's $800 you should have it done. If I were looking, I'd favor a car that had just been serviced over one that was due.
