Parking lights are dead....bulbs are okay - where to start ??? 850

Hello:
The parking (back up) lights are dead on my 94 850 wagon. I checked the fuses and bulbs and they seem to be okay. The idiot light is off - I suspect some switch around the tranny shift lever, but I am not sure....Anybody had the same problem or knows where to start ?
